Where’s Laurent Gras? is the question I hear most on the gastro-party circuit (and it’s not just because I’m married to him). To recap for those playing at home: Laurent departed San Francisco, returning to Gotham on a quest to open Chez Gras.

Despite there being so many places to eat, the New York restaurant community is notoriously small – paths cross and alliances are formed. Signori Batali, Bastianich and Pasternack and Signora Bastianich have added Monsieur Gras as a managing partner to their 42nd Street bistro.
But before you put 212.239.3060 onto your speed dial, note that his menu doesn’t start until November 1st. What will diners find on said menu? Simple French fare á la gras. It is a bistro after all. The high-flying haute cuisine will come later at his next restaurant. The quest continues…
